Teraco opens doors ten days ahead of schedule
Date: January 21, 2009Teraco Data Environments, the first provider of vendor neutral colocation facilities in South Africa, has opened its Cape Town data centre ten days ahead of schedule thanks to the planning and project management of operations manager, Nils Gerstle.
Teraco’s first customers, FastNet and WebAfrica and Neotel, are fully installed and operational with the Telkom Wholesale and Vodacom Business installation expected to be complete by March 2009. “Building a data centre is no small task,” says Lex van Wyk, managing director or Teraco Data Environments. “Data centres obviously need absolute redundancy so each part of the build needed to be repeated two or, as in the case with our power generators, three times. So while I was anticipating on-time delivery of the centres, I was not expecting to have time to muse over the choice of carpet colour.”
